Named after New York's moniker of 'Empire State', the Empire State Building stood for four decades as the tallest skyscraper in NYC, until it was supplanted by the WTC in 1972. Post 9/11, it once again became New York City's tallest building. This is the spire that King Kong climbs (and eventually falls to his death from)
