Kings Canyon National Park shares a border with Sequoia National Park and the two parks are administered as one.
Grant Grove
Grant Grove is the only swath of giant sequoias in Kings Canyon National Park. The lion's share of the rest are in Sequoia National Park.
California 180
The national park is over 7000 ft above sea level and California Highway 180 winds down from Grant Grove down to the canyon - a descent of over 4000 ft. Interesting rock formations dot the drive which ends, appropriately enough, at Road's End.
Waterfalls
En route CA-180 are two waterfalls, Grizzly falls at first and Roaring River Falls at the end of the drive. The last portion of the winding drive is flat and along Kings River.
Zumwalt Meadow
Zumwalt Meadow lies at the very end of CA-180 and is worth the 1.5 mile hike.
Sunset from McGee Point
As always, Sunset in a National Park is an unforgettable experience. This is at McGee Point close to the entrance.
How to get there
Kings Canyon National Park and adjoining Sequoia National Park are administered as one park. The closest large city is Fresno from where Yosemite National Park is also nearby.
