Emerald Bay and Fannette Island
Emerald Bay is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful spots around the lake. Contained in the bay is the only island in the entire lake - Fannette Island.
Lake Tahoe
In all of the United States, only Crater Lake in Oregon is deeper than Lake Tahoe. A popular resort year round, it has skiing in the winter and warm beaches in the summer. Squaw Valley near Lake Tahoe was the venue of the 1960 Winter Olympics. South Lake Tahoe on the border of California and Nevada is the largest city near the lake.

California's capital, Sacramento lies at the intersection of Interstates 5 and 80 and US 50 and it is well worth a stop here enroute to Lake Tahoe for a look at the State Capitol.
