To feel rich and famous, if only briefly, drive down to Pebble Beach in Monterey, California. This upscale golf course hosts world-class tournaments such as the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the US Open. It is the most scenic golf course in the world: the Pebble Beach Company's website quotes Jack Nicklaus' saying that if he had one last round of golf to play, it would be in Pebble Beach.
There are other lesser courses in the area as well and the best way to see these is to take the 17 mile drive through the area. This is a private road and admission is charged. The are pullouts all along the route for each of these spots.
The rugged coastline and the sea pounding on the rocks convinces one that this place lives up to its billing as "The Greatest Meeting of Land, Sea, and Sky in the World"
The Lone Cypress Tree
This is the famous 300 year old tree in Pebble Beach. Along with the Bixby Bridge in Big Sur, this tree is one of the iconic representations of the fabled California Coast.
Castroville
The town Castroville on the route to Monterey is the 'Artichoke Center of the World'.
