In 1890, Sequoia National Park became America's second national park, an area set apart for future generations to experience and enjoy the exquisite beauty of this jewel in the Sierra Nevada. Sequoia NP shares a border with Kings Canyon National Park and the two parks are administered as one.
Giant Sequoias
The scientific name for the Giant Sequoias is Sequoia sempervirens or evergreen. It might as well have been called everlasting as some of these trees are thousands of years old. These giant sequoias are some of the tallest, largest, biggest and heaviest living things on the planet. A trip to Sequoia National Park will at the very least remind one of the sheer power and majesty of nature.
Moro Rock
Moro Rock (or Morro Rock) is a solid block of granite not unlike Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. Fortunately it is only a short, if strenuous, 10 minute hike to the summit from which the Great Western Divide and several important peaks are visible. It is also a popular destination for rock climbers who choose to take the sheer route rather than the stairs.
Giant Forest
The Giant Forest area has multiple attractions like the General Sherman Tree, the Congress abd Big Trees Trails, the Sentinel Tree and the Parker Group of trees.
General's Highway
California Highway 198 winds down through Sequoia National Park and is called the General's Highway. Along the way are the Giant Forest, Wuksachi Lodge, Moro Rock and Beetle rock. Beetle rock is an excellent place to see a sunset.
